Kufiyyeh

Introduction

The kufiyyeh is a cotton headdress originally worn by Arabs in different countries to protect them from the sand and direct sun exposure. Although it still has that functionality, the garment has become a symbol of Palestinian solidarity and resistance to the Israeli occupation and an international symbol against any kind of oppression. Its popularity among young people and celebrities around the world has transformed it into a fashion garment.
